The SPAR Academy of Learning is proud to offer a Distance Learning Retail Management Programme, tailor made to suit our needs within the SPAR Group. By enrolling Management Staff from any SPAR store onto our outstanding programme, we can help drive the success of your store, by introducing learners to skills and expertise they need to run a store efficiently and effectively.

TRAINING CURRENT AND FUTURE MANAGERS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The Distance Learning Retail Management Programme will develop current Store Managers and Future Managers with high potential to become efficient in implementing SPAR best practices and improve the operational performance of a SPAR store. The Programme also aims to deliver parallel benefits to all stakeholders listed below:

  • The individual learner who participates in the Programme
  • The Retailer who employs the learner
  • The SPAR group’s brand
  • The Retail sector as a whole

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Store Managers, Assistant Store Managers, Departmental Managers or Supervisors undergoing skills and career development and people with high potential to become Managers. Learners will obtain recognition towards a qualification. The programme would also assist with succession planning.

RETURN ON INVESTMENT EARN WHILE YOU LEARN!

Distance learning means the learner learns on the job and attends 28 contact facilitation sessions over two years. Implementation of learning is immediate.

SUPPORT

Learners are guided through the programme by using a combination of Distance Learning and Instructional Learning to enhance the learning experience:

  • Comprehensive orientation of learners
  • Scheduled facilitated sessions headed by a subject matter expert
  • Scheduled touch down sessions / POE building days
  • Comprehensive study guides
  • Structured workplace activities, activity questions, check lists etc
  • An appointed mentor in the workplace
  • A network of subject matter experts within the DC and SPAR Academy
  • Registered Assessors to prepare learners for assessment

This support is complemented by a Mentorship Programme and dedicated Distance Learning Training Team.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • An in-store mentor must be identified to support the learner
  • Learner must meet the requirements of preassessment to be accepted onto the programme
  • Learner must have a matric
  • Learner must be 22 years of age or older
  • Learner must have at least 3 years retail experience
  • Learner must be given an opportunity to spend time in each department as required by the programme

AN ACHIEVABLE PROGRAMME STRUCTURE TO HELP LEARNERS SUCCEED!

  • +/-28 contact days over two years
  • 9 Skills Programmes with 275 creditsc
  • Skills Programmes accredited by the W&RSETA
  • SETA-approved Assessment for each skills programme delivered
  • Learners will submit 9 Portfolios of Evidence
  • Learners will receive a SPAR Academy certificate and 9 National skills awards from the W&RSETA

ASSESSMENT

A range of assessment methods is used:

  • Workplace Assessments (Summative) – questions are developed to ensure that the learner is able to demonstrate competence in the presence of a qualified and registered Assessor.
  • Witness in the workplace will also be used to observe learners and will gather evidence for the Assessor to make a judgement of competence.
  • Summative Knowledge Test – a closed book test written at the end of each skill programme.
  • Assignments – researched information from the workplace, structured and formulated into an assignment.

Applicants need to submit the following:

  • SPAR application form available from your Distribution Centre Training Department
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Certified copies of past qualification, short courses and workshops
  • Two certified copies of your Identity Document
  • Successful completion of pre-assessment to give you access to the programme
