The SPAR Academy seeks to contribute towards making SPAR an employer of choice by offering best practice, quality education and training to its people throughout Southern Africa.

Rationale for Vision

A strategic intent of the SPAR Group is to utilise the core competencies in the following areas to dominate food retailing in Southern Africa through SPAR and its system of trading:
  • Distribution: effective replenishment system for all our retailers, through lasting supply-chain relationships
  • Retail: Support retailers through mutually beneficial relationships
  • Our brand: make SPAR the most sought after and valued brand in Southern Africa
  • Our people: attract, retain and develop an innovative team to be the best in our industry

MISSION

  • To provide ongoing support to the SPAR family through developing, sourcing and delivering accredited outcomes based developmental education, to current and potential SPAR employees
  • To create wealth for members, shareholders and employees through processes leading to the certification of competent individuals.

Rationale for Mission

The Skills Development Act has helped to define the thinking around education and training practices at SPAR. The SPAR Academy accepts the challenge to provide the SPAR family with a continually improving quality of education and training directed at the needs of the business, and in line with the requirements of National Unit Standards and legislation. The SPAR Academy exists within an organisational culture where strategic objectives include the growth in operating profit and shareholder expectations.
